A certification of asbestos abatement is required of contractors who intend to work for the elimination or reduction of asbestos. The word asbestos was invented by the Greeks. Indicates inextinguishable. That is, the Greeks were the first to have used. Being a mineral fiber, asbestos was widely used for industrial and national intentions.

Each contractor must obtain certification of asbestos removal in order to implement the business of removing asbestos. For a period longer than a year, asbestos contractor certification is not permitted to be granted. After a period of one year, this certificate expires. The registration of a contractor expires after one year as well.

To obtain a certificate, they must complete a training course and qualify a multiple choice test, based on the area of specialization.

The type of training and certification that a person receives depends on the type of work an individual does. Currently, the Department of Health North Dakota Asbestos Control Program certifies individuals in six different disciplines. Each discipline allows a person to perform certain jobs, disciplines and their definitions are:

Inspector means any person who inspects facilities that contain asbestos materials. For the analysis of asbestos, asbestos inspector certificate shall take samples.

Management Planner: Anyone who plans to build facilities for the management of materials containing asbestos.


Reduction Project Designer: Anyone who develops the plans, specifications and designs for an asbestos removal project.

Supervisor Reduction: Any person employed by the asbestos contractor, including a public employee who supervises workers engaged in asbestos removal certification, the enclosure, encapsulation and repair.

Reduction of workers: an employee or agent of an asbestos contractor, or a public employee engaged in the reduction of more than three square feet [0.28 square meters] or three linear feet [0.91 meters] of material friable asbestos, except those involved in the abatement work in their private residences.

Monitor Project Mitigation: any person employed to supervise an asbestos removal project.
